Welcome to Year 1 2015 - 16

Thank you to all our families for helping their children to settle so well to Year 1. They are very independent and have made a super start.

Week 2

In Maths this week we have revisited place value and used our knowledge to order one, two and three digit numbers. This has been tricky at times, but we have persevered! In English, we have begun writing a sequel for the Lighthouse Keeper's lunch story. We have used adjectives, lots of description and story openers to make it more exciting! We also enjoyed a visit from a lady who talked to us about keeping our bodies healthy. I am sure Year 1 can tell you lots about how to keep healthy!

Well done to these children:

What we have been up to this week...

This week in Maths we have been continuing to practise subtracting numbers and developed strategies to help us recall subtraction facts quickly. In topic, we have continued to learn about the Royals. The highlight of the week was definitely our trip to Abbey House Museum where we learnt more about Queen Elizabeth and compared her to Queen Victoria! The next day, we wrote some informative and excellent recounts of what we did for Mrs Simpson to read. Enjoy the holiday, Year 1.

Here are some pictures from the trip:

Our week...

In Maths this week, we have begun learning about money. We have bought objects off each other, and ensured we had the correct coins to pay for it. We have also learnt how to give change. In topic, we have been continuing to learn about India. This week, we received a letter from a pupil in a school in New Delhi who wanted to find out what it was like in her school compared to our school. We looked at the pictures she sent us, and made some good comparisons about school life. Another good week, Year 1. Well done!
