Moving pictures!

This week, we had a task of making moving animals! We have been focusing on the book, Handa's Surprise. The Reception children told us that they wanted the book to be more exciting, so we thought carefully about how we could achieve this and came up with the idea of moving pictures!
We experimented with different materials and equipment, but decided to join card together with split pins! A super effort from all of Year 1, Well done!

Week 2

In Maths this week we have revisited place value and used our knowledge to order one, two and three digit numbers. This has been tricky at times, but we have persevered! In English, we have begun writing a sequel for the Lighthouse Keeper's lunch story. We have used adjectives, lots of description and story openers to make it more exciting! We also enjoyed a visit from a lady who talked to us about keeping our bodies healthy. I am sure Year 1 can tell you lots about how to keep healthy!

Well done to these children:

What we have been up to this week...

This week in Maths we have been continuing to practise subtracting numbers and developed strategies to help us recall subtraction facts quickly. In topic, we have continued to learn about the Royals. The highlight of the week was definitely our trip to Abbey House Museum where we learnt more about Queen Elizabeth and compared her to Queen Victoria! The next day, we wrote some informative and excellent recounts of what we did for Mrs Simpson to read. Enjoy the holiday, Year 1.

Here are some pictures from the trip:

Our week...

In Maths this week, we have begun learning about money. We have bought objects off each other, and ensured we had the correct coins to pay for it. We have also learnt how to give change. In topic, we have been continuing to learn about India. This week, we received a letter from a pupil in a school in New Delhi who wanted to find out what it was like in her school compared to our school. We looked at the pictures she sent us, and made some good comparisons about school life. Another good week, Year 1. Well done!

What a busy week we have had in Year 1! As well as continuing our daily Read Write Inc and Maths sessions, we have been discovering more about Great Preston’s past and researching information to find out what Mining was like 100 years ago! In Science, we have been learning about the five different animal groups including mammals, reptiles, fish, birds and amphibians and have worked together to sort out lots of different animals into the correct groups. We have also been designing our own fruit salads in preparation for making them next week. Well done Year 1!
